SHAKA

In December, I coordinated a full turquoise look for my debut night in LA when I attended PacSun's "Common Threads" event. It was a wild evening -- Snoop Dogg, open bar, photobooth, and a reunion with my friends Bethany, Peter, Olivia, and Adam from Lookbook. I don't even think I slept that night, opting instead for a warehouse party and eventually breakfast (delirious, and at the crack of dawn) at Fred 62. By the next morning, my suede turquoise wedges were hopelessly tarnished by pools of mud and rain through which I had apparently trudged en route from event to cab to party to cab again. So, reluctantly, I resigned those shoes to a box of other wearable keepsakes that symbolize the genesis and finality of phases in my life marked by sartorial signatures. Turquoise did me well in 2012. Initiated many friendships, undermined ones that weren't worth nurturing, and gave the internet yet another reason not to take me seriously... jokes. Not going to retire my penchant for blue in 2013. Gonna take it to other levels.

I remember the night this cyan cap from the 99 cent store became my staple "SHAKA beanie" instead... I was looking down at its dazzling hue wondering how to make it even more ""branded."" That's when the turquoise puff paint came out. Some of you have asked "why #shaka?" and since I"m exhausted explaining THAT dated cultural prophecy, I'll just forward you to this tweet and leave things there. Mysteriously.

My vintage top is from 9 Crow Street -- still my jam for hand-picked secondhand pieces thrifted in Ireland and for sale worldwide! Ya can check out three collages I made inspired by their stock a few months ago. The floral pants are an absolute MUST (as in, you physically require them) for anyone who dares self-identify as a 'tropicunt' (me, three months ago, but you know... I still #respect). I'm wearing spiked heels from Boohoo instead of my aqua wedges in this look -- and I love them both equally. The spikes and oxford platelet give the ensemble a hard edge with uptown sophistication. It works for an outfit that's otherwise overflowing with motif excess: rhinestone bindis, gold chains, foliage print and faux fur. You can really seriously always expect me to "go there."

TROPIGOTH

PARENTS FORCING YOU TO GO ON A “FUN” FAMILY VACATION TO BARBADOS BUT YOU’RE LIKE “UGH STOP TRYING TO GET ME EXCITED ABOUT SOME DUMB MARGARITA WITH AN UMBRELLA IN IT, CLEARLY I AM DEPRESSED BECAUSE MY BOYFRIEND SAYS HE WANTS SPACE”???? Have no fear, tropical wear also comes in BLACK to assuage your dark energy! You can be goth AND totally vacation appropriate. No one’s gonna throw you off the cruise ship in these Fiji pants from Motel Rocks. They’ve got all the sass of a Hibiscus lei but with the sensible depth of a tortured poet writing free verse in a Starbucks.

Leather sleeved jacket - BOOHOO
Pants – Motel Rocks
Shoes – TUSC BOUTIQUE

As badly as I’d like to go full force with the tropical theme, you can’t SERIOUSLY expect me to evict black from my wardrobe. There’s GONNA be days this winter when I’m like “no, if I wear the rainbow galaxy leisure suit people might think I’m inviting conversation.” Sometimes you just wanna wear something that keeps passersby at a safe distance. Like layers of spikes from literally head to toe.

Before I go, just want to make EXTRA sure that you're paying EXTRA attention to my spankin new pair of studded boots. Tusc Boutique treated me to these guys and I've been in a spiked-leather-induced bliss for the past couple weeks. Every single person reading this needs to invest in a pair of military boots. The amount of time you save NOT lamenting over the fact that you don't own a pair of kicks that match ANY ensemble pays for itself. Ya. BTW - Tusc Boutique sells WAY more than shoes! Like this:

Shred It Up Sweater, Rojas Bajas Denim Shorts, Two-Tone Leggings

Hope ya <3 them as much as I do! MUAH!

SPIKE IT

Pretty sure a "spike" has something to do with volleyball (cue me resenting that I took gym class for granted in high school,  just like every other diva who pretended sneakers and perforated running shorts weren't cool but now realize that athleticism is All The Rage) buuuuut I'm more familiar with spikes of the DECORATION variety. Little pointy things that make my cross sweater even cooler and more tactile. Don't hug me too hard. Paired with my trusted sweat/slacks from Yes Style and rhinestone-encrusted sneaker wedges from Boohoo. Only thing better than a platform kick is a platform kick that glitters in the light. ;-)

Sneaker wedges - BOOHOO

It's gonna be a painfully long while before you see a hat on my head that isn't a beanie or snapback. And this bag is not going ANYWHERE except over my shoulders. I brought it with me to LA three weeks ago and by the time I made it home, the edges of the pockets were all worn away, even though it was brand spankin' new the night before I left. There's no such thing as partying too hard. Just enough or not at all.
