SCHOOL GIRLY

I'm home from abroad! After 10 days in Israel, I'm back in the states with more stories than I have choker necklaces and detachable collars combined. For now, I'll tell you about this outfit. I drew from preppy uniforms for inspiration, but strayed from expectation by wearing a fedora hat and clog heels instead of a french braid and oxford lace-ups.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Fedora - Metro Park
Top - Oh My Frock, www.ohmyfrock.com
Belt- Natural Colour, www.natural-colour.com
Skirt - Abercrombie
Bag - Gucci
Shoes - Qupid, www.lulus.com

The top is from Oh My Frock, which is where my Old Hollywood white coat came from! It's pretty rare to find a shirt with sleeves as 'statement' as these. My wardrobe is ALWAYS hiring shoulder pads and sleeve adornments that hog the spotlight.

TO THE RACES

Fine. Make fun of me for fixating on Ralph Lauren equestrian prints and floppy hats. I don't care! I'm not defensive!! Instead of wearing an oversized tweed blazer, I threw it over my shoulders like all the cool street style bloggers do in New York City. And speaking of which, I'm in NYC right now, blogging from the Bushwick apartment of Leigh Alexander, video game journalist extraordinaire. We call each other sisters.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Hat - August for Macy's
Blazer - Ralph Lauren
Sweater - Ralph Lauren
Shorts - ROMWE, www.romwe.com
Socks - Drugstore
Shoes - Me Too, www.metooshoes.com

I wore this ensemble to a Thanksgiving dinner with my friends Christine and Tolga Katas, a pair of newlywed journalists and programmers, also game enthusiasts and hacker enthusiasts. My favorite people self-identify as geeks. I guess I'm a geek myself, but you probably wouldn't guess when I'm decked out in my equestrian best. Off to the races!

Gorgeous oxford heels from Me Too shoes.

FEMME DE CHEVAUX

So I like horses. What of it? And I'm wearing heels without socks. What of that, either? In all seriousness, it's pretty weird to wear heels without socks. As in, it genuinely feels strange, like there's a piece of my heart that somehow shriveled up into a crescent shaped piece of potpourri and fell out of my chest. But these wedges are naturally divine. They hold their own. They don't need 'help' from my lace sock collection. I wonder how the jockeys on my equestrian blouse feel about my outfit. Perhaps they play with Coco Chanel over the weekends and can put a good word in for me.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Hat - August, Macy's
Blouse - Ralph Lauren
Blazer - Forever 21
Skirt - Secondhand
Belt - Brighton
Heels - Nine West

I am really, seriously, indescribably *opens up online thesaurus and finds a bunch of pretentious adverbs to insert here* devoted to equestrian inspired outfits. I did a look with this blouse a year ago, but I was wearing pants, and I think the green bubble skirt is much more flattering. Make-overs are so much fun!!!!!!!!

EQUESTRIAN

My green, brown, and red Ralph Lauren blouse was begging to be paired with any apparel piece that would honor its equestrian spirit. I think this olive green blazer was just jockey enough. The theme wasn't perfect (I would have preferred riding boots and gauchos), so I'll leave you with my favorite self-aware and post-ironically irrelevant catchphrase: "but hey, whatever works."

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Blazer- Tahari
Blouse- Ralph Lauren
Belt- Brighton
Jeans- Hudson
Ankle boots- Steve Madden
Messenger bag- Vintage

The close-up of my blouse print spotlights the immortalized champion horse-riders. If only I was elegant and knew how to ride...

Here's a 'gratuitous picture of myself' exposing the bang trim ONE MORE TIME.

I will post more elaborately very soon! My sister is on winter break and I'm in virtual high school so it looks like I'll be having a lot more free time in the upcoming weeks.

Y▲CH† GIRL

My theme for yesterday's 'school' ensemble was 'yacht club chic'. After a euphoric week of cloudy skies and 75 degree breezes, the weather heated back up to an unpleasant 90 degree temperature. I tried to get back into the 'summer livin' mindset to make the heat more tolerable, but it was a bit difficult seeing that it's already October.

From the top:
Floppy hat- "August" for Nordstrom
Sunglasses- Thrift find at Savers
Polo- Ralph Lauren blue label
Cardigan- Ralph Lauren green label
Belt- Brighton
Shorts- Vigoss, bought them at Buffalo Exchange
Booties- Steve Madden
Scarf- Vintage

I even curled my hair into tight ringlets. I'M ALWAYS DTE (Down To Experiment).
