PREP SCHOOL SUMMER COOL

UGH, why do I ALWAYS feel the urge to dress preppy after school gets out?? It's like, couldn't I have experienced this craving during the Fall or Spring semester when it was actually practical? Totally goes to show that we want what we can't have. And now that it's summer vacation, my natural response is to lust after textbooks and classrooms and all the academic ensembles that go with it (think cardigans, white socks, and lace-up oxfords.) This look is functional nonetheless -- I'm rockin' a high bun and halter top to combat the heat wave. Oh, and my favorite pair of crooked sunglasses! RT if all your sunnies are broken from throwing them into your purse without a protective case WAIT THIS IS BLOGSPOT.COM NOT TWITTER?? What the heck. I guess the heat wave is STILL getting to me despite my efforts to keep cool.

My cutie pie baby blue elasticized shorts are FOR SALE on the Fabulous Stains! Hallelujah! Will be posting TONS of looks featuring our items throughout the week. This outfit reminds me of Virgin Jessica. Do I say that too much? She and Madeline from Jean Greige are pretty much the only two bloggers who non-stop inspire the shit out of me. Except I feel like both of them would have made this outfit ten times cooler... Jessica, with cat-eye sunglasses and cross jewelry, and Madeline, with an oversize jean jacket and creepers. YALL R AMAZEBALLZ!

DERBY

Usually I wear this corduroy cap backwards, but I figure a newsboy style is more true to to my derby theme than a beret. For my next equestrian look, I'll need two things: a pair of dark jodhpurs and a gorgeous black stallion. I should marry a prince, huh? I am WAY more deserving of a place in the Royal Family than boring Kate Middleton. Can definitely see myself playing a posh game of polo every Sunday morning.

NEUTRAL SCALE

Since photographing this outfit, my beloved tortoiseshell sunglasses have snapped in half... I think they're beyond repair. Which is really hard to cope with because they were my favorite sunnies, possibly of all time. I guess I don't have a very good relationship with sunglasses. I either lose them or break them, which SUCKS because I develop deep emotional attachments to nearly every pair. Anyway, 'neutral scale' is pretty much the best summation of this look, right? Gray, white, ivory, and khaki. A good combo for February. Bummed because I think this might be the last month where it's still appropriate to wear Nordic print. Or maybe it's already too late to wear it and I'm just being my typical rogue self. The latter idea seems much cooler, but also potentially embarrassing. I think I accidentally wore a Christmas themed-shirt in late January many years ago when I was a freshman in high school. Not kidding, I have at least 100 anecdotes about wardrobe mishaps and malfunctions from my childhood and adolescence.

Going to hang out with my friends Jack and Jessi today! I'll try and take as many pictures as I can so you guys can get an idea of what weekends in Vegas are really like for underage people. And by underage, I mean I'm always the only underage person out of my group of friends and hold everyone else back from seeing Tiesto at the Hard Rock.

TWIGGY IN PASTEL GRADIENTS

When I first ordered this sweater, I didn't have any idea what I'd do with it. Simply fell in love with the cotton candy color scheme and called it a day! I'm a hardcore sucker for gradient fabrics... especially when they're pastel. Pretty much every characteristic this garment possessed (including the fact that it's a motherhonkin' sweater dress) coalesced into a fluid manifestation of wearable divinity that I can only describe as "God clothing." I tweeted about this phenomenon once, but I think you all thought I was kidding. That heavenly essence is REAL! And it just so happens to photograph extremely well. I held the sweater up to nearly everything in my closet, trying to find some decent layers to pile over and under it. Can you believe it? It's like my paisley blouse and knit cardigan were separated from this baby at birth. I went full force with the 60's theme, and instead of embracing Woodstock culture, I drew inspiration from icons like Twiggy, Edie, and... yes, Dianna Agron on the January 2012 cover of Nylon.

My sweater is from Nautral-Colour, just like the last little striped number I blogged about in December. Some day my sweater collection will be as impressive as the blazer section in my closet. Too bad I live in the desert where sweaters RARELY come in handy. This one's especially practical because it's dress-length. Which means I can wear it sans pants, hallelujah! Functionality aside, the best darn thing about it is the gradient blue-to-pink color fade. Would you guys feel pissed if I repeated that five more times? Gradient blue-to-pink color fade. Gradient blue-to-pink color fade. Gradient blue-to-pink color fade. Gradient blue-to-pink color fade. Gradient blue-to-pink color fade. My autobiography: Gradient blue-to-pink color fade by Bebe Zeva, a Story About Life, Love, And Spirituality (because these threads make feel a teensy bit religious, y'all!) God clothing. It's a thing.

EQUESTRIAN PURPLE

Where did all this equestrian-inspired country flair come from? It's completely overwhelmed my wardrobe and now I only think in terms of denim and floppy hats. I have a million jillion pairs of jeans, but I'm seriously addicted to this particular pair of Gweneveres by Seven For All Mankind. I've had them since I was 15, so it's pretty cool that my big butt still squeezes into 'em. I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago when I ventured into the suburbs for a doctor's appointment. It was surreal being in my old environment wearing something I probably wouldn't have been caught dead in as a teenager. When I was younger, I had so much more to prove. Surely I've already told you about how I thought "fashion was for yuppies" and wore the same evergreen sweatshirt and moccasins on the daily. I thought it made me seem more 'distanced from materialism' but nonetheless 'true to my personal brand.' I've come a long way... and for that I deserve applause, people!!!! You don't really have to clap, though. I know I said I could see through my computer screen yesterday but that was just for dramatic effect. I honestly have no idea what you're doing right now.

I ought to start looking at vintage Ralph Lauren catalogs for outfit inspiration. And REALLY, I need to expand my floppy hat collection! I recommend the same for y'all, too. The only thing I care about these days are big brims and chunky platforms.

Also, GREAT NEWS. Romwe, every fashion blogger's favorite online shop, is hosting a promotion for some garments with Peter Pan collars! Their two cutest dresses are $20 off with the code -20USD! Check it out here: Romwe Back to Childhood Sale

DOUBLE DENIM

Today is a very exciting day for me because I get to debut my DENIM ON DENIM! Fashion's most famous faux-pas happens to be my fave fundamental. Something about jeans on top AND bottom gives an outfit fluidity and closure. I think double denim was especially popular in the 90s, so I paired my iridescent Ralph Lauren pumps with a pair of cuffed skinny jeans for a throwback look. 2-inch stilettos have yet to make a comeback for the young and trendy. Nowadays, the It Factor is completely manifested in maximalism -- giant, platform Jeffrey Campbells, rainbows, spikes, and studs. So how's this for a change?

For those who wonder... my lipstick shade is "Centrifuschia" by Lime Crime. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Lime Crime's opaque lipstick collection is THE BEST I have ever used. No other lip product has ever worked more effectively for me. Not even M.A.C. I think I'm usually prone to wearing a bright color on my lips when the color palette for my outfit is "too neutral." With black, I almost always rock a deep red or mauve. Lipstick is an accessory, people! Might even be more important than a killer purse.

FOR LOVE I COME

Since today's post is small, I'm gonna put all my emphasis on this one lil thing: THE FABULOUS STAINS. If you haven't already heard, my friends and I created a blog slash online store slash lifestyle brand (jk) called "The Fabulous Stains" (sound familiar?) We talk about street style trends, model muses, and films that inspire our style. And on the side, we hand select vintage and secondhand garments and accessories to sell in our shop on Etsy! This blazer is one of those prized pieces. And it's selling for $25 right here. Shop til ya drop! Unless you can shop without dropping. That would be ideal.

Added a little pep to my mostly neutral prep ensemble with a bold blue blazer and brown accessories.
