début

J'adore my long-lived relationship with big hats and bold stripes... always seeking to capture that je ne sais quois mystique of a movie character. I'm thrilled for Autumn and long sleeves and cuffed pants and heavy brims and pointless tinted shades in overcast parks. I'm thrilled for any change - for something new to style. Got places to go, people to be.

vogue boss

Yesterday's look was for sure my favorite outfit, but today's theme is my favorite aura. 1980s situationist slam poet, a tortured artist whose 'soul' complaints include the "the toxic breath of post-fordist capitalism" and a "labyrinthine secret order imprisoning my carnal unit." Favorite movies: Videodrome and The Lawnmower Man. Favorite musicians: Art of Noise, Biota. Favorite artists: Cindy Sherman and whoever is responsible for this youtube video. Favorite quote: "Never Work."

Might I ever be a "Vogue Boss" in an outfit this kitschy? Might I even desire to be a "Vogue Boss" if capable of an outfit this kitschy? I think I'm more inclined for a position as 'Adbusters Creative Director of Fashion Hacking.'

Jah bless to one of the ex bf's for this top, I am well aware that it's the greatest shirt you've ever seen and that I have good taste in suitors. They usually give me excellent clothing to reward me for being such a wonderful girlfriend before inevitably breaking up with me, blocking me, and sending me seething text messages during one of their cocaine comedowns in the ensuing months. Worthy trade-off!

Vogue Boss Slam Poet's parting Debordian cry:
"INCESSANT TECHNOLOGICAL RENEWAL, INTEGRATION OF STATE AND ECONOMY, GENERALIZED SECRECY, UNANSWERABLE LIES, AND ETERNAL PRESENT... OH, THE HORROR"

DEPRESTON

It’s been a rough winter for all of us, some more than others. ‘Seasonal depression’ is a pretty common phenomenon among us lot of uber sensitive, unnecessarily emotional creatives. We need the physical comfort of warmth to remind us that life is real. We need long, summer days to trick us into believing that we’re not running out of time. We need barbecues and pool parties to distract us from the imminence of death and other stupid melodramatic existential shit (things that only privileged people have the free time to think about). Winter, obviously, is an overt threat to our sanity. We whine, mope, weep, deck ourselves out in monochrome and refuse to remove our circle sunglasses in public, flattering ourselves with the masturbatory paranoia that other people will want to make eye contact with our sorry asses. We’re perfectly sad. Pristinely depressed. Depreston.

Many thanks to OASAP for the necklace, dress, and coat! I’d be naked and unaccessorized without you. These are the material wonders that keep me alive and inspired in the treacherous emotional valleys of winter gloom… I will survive. And look like a very posh, very tortured soul while doing it.

I guess I'm in that embarrassing "quarter life crisis" phase where - with no tinge of irony - I don't know who I am or what I want to do, all I know is that my current routine is NOT working. I find myself toting textbook knowledge like a trendy handbag, and subconsciously it's trivialized everything I know because I am too eager to share it with other people. I can't outsmart my unspoken ulterior motives - that "knowingness" will help me gain membership into some community founded on chic theories and artistic revolution. Maybe I'll find peace this Spring. I want to live every day not thinking about the future. I think I've sort of been through this before... a sadness onset by "competitive culture." Only people who are winning are happy; the rest of us are made to feel worthless and doomed. We can either join our oppressors in the Elite Climb, or we can find happiness elsewhere. Like in a beam of light.

Leave Me Like You Found Me

The sadder I get, the more inclined I feel to wear minimalist looks. My idea of minimalist is one statement piece and black everywhere else. I chose this camel coat from OASAP as my centerpiece for this outfit -- the delicate flare of the waist, the tiered hem, the way the belt cinches my waist and defines the silhouette -- it's all enough to command a presence without going overboard on the accessories and layers. I had a pretty classic "beat poet" look on underneath, which felt a little cheesy as I was reading in public, but. You know. Wardrobe black like my soul.

I just got back from the MAGIC tradeshow right here in Vegas where I joined about 30 other fashion bloggers for a 3-day session of content generation, exploration, discussion, and discovery. Hundreds of instagrams... from scoping out the convention floor to partying hard at the Palazzo... I'd be a fool not to share them with ya! Keep your eyes peeled for my coverage next week. Infinite thanks to Kelsi Smith and the Two Point Oh! LA team for making my attendance possible! :)

Troisième œil

I don't speak French, but according to my research, "troisième œil" translates to 'third eye' -- a très new age entity that supposedly catapults people into a state of higher consciousness. Since my outfit is inspired by a stereotypically French beatnik look, angora beret and stripes in tow, and features a holographic eyeball pendant around my neck, I chose to name it after something mystical and chic. Because clearly my potential for spiritual enlightenment is as high as the society I belong to in Paris.

Chelsea boots - WANTED

Everything on my body is pretty much a staple piece... slouchy slacks, chelsea boots, tortoiseshell shades, and a bulky winter coat (that hopefully I'll no longer need come 60 degree breezes woo). Most importantly is my striped sweater. It's absorbed many a tear this tragic winter. And y'all know there's no greater consolation than emerging from a mountain of Kleenex and seeing your cutie pie striped sweater reflection in the mirror... thanks a million to QQONE for hookin' it up! For those who aren't familiar - QQone is a retailer that specializes in sweaters ~exclusively~. Cardigans, ponchos, vests, too... if you can knit it, they stock it. I weirdly wish they would sponsor my depression. Heh. ^-^

FANCY CASUAL

"Cool paradox, Bebe," some of you might say sarcastically after reading my post title because it's that time of month and everything is five hundred thousand times more annoying than usual. But I'm sincerely not trying to contradict myself... this look really is fancy from a casual person's perspective! How else might I describe it? A dinner party on Xanax, maybe. Sophisticated, but downplayed. I mostly try to avoid safe looks, but I still respect that there are certain occasions that call for a muted dress code. Like a job interview. Yes, it's possible to conform to someone else's standards without compromising your personality. This look represents me pretty well, even though it's missing 10 pounds of cross jewelry and a leather jacket. As long as it doesn't scare anyone I'm trying to impress, I'm good. ;)

"This gray t-shirt dress is the perfect evening staple for a girl who's looking to layer. Either tucked into a skirt or worn simply with tights or jeans, the silhouette it creates always elegant. The beige, crochet lace sleeves accentuate the shoulders and are the perfect finishing touch for this sophisticated top." Feel free to place an order here.

PARIS 1989

I've tried to avoid wearing berets and blazers lately since I think I've gotten too comfortable with them. They're starting to serve as a security blanket for me when I'm feeling lazy, and I'm all about challenging myself so I need to cut it out. That aside, this outfit is (typically) Parisian with a (not so typically) late 80s, early 90s influence. I know that French people don't actually wear stripes and berets and turtlenecks all the time, but at some point it really was a trend, and that's where the American idealized image of a Frenchman came from. J'adore.

Wish I had more to say, but it's Spring break! And I'm literally spending the entire week in my bedroom sleeping. It's okay, I had a très productive Saturday and Sunday. So many fun new clothes to show ya! And new stock on the Fabulous Stains, too. I'm in a terrible mood right now, so I'm really proud of how enthusiastic I sound while typing... heh. I'll feel better as soon as somebody paypals me a fruit smoothie and the S Club 7 complete series on DVD.
