leo neo

Idk about you but if I were in the matrix, the absolute last material I'd want to sport is leather. Does sweat not exist in a simulacrum or were Morpheus and the gang just sucking it up for the camera? Meta, I know. Anyhoo a mesh jersey sounds much more practical for an olympic chase -- plenty of ventilation and flexibility, all the better to dodge bullets with. The top I'm wearing in this look is armed with an oversize asymmetrical panel on the bottom, leaving behind a silhouette more avant garde than a PVC knockoff Trinity trench coat paired with Crocs. As for the bunchy jersey collar: I added that myself. Clearly much better at layering fabrics than realities.

These photos are from at least a couple months ago but little has changed in the life of Zave. Except I did spill seltzer water all over this mixed metals necklace last week. And I had my roots highlighted last night. OH YA and I sacrificed this gorgeous faux fur coat to the cause of cats. Know how lil bb felines loooove to knead their paws against soft furs that remind them of kittenhood -- especially ones that perfectly match their own coloring? Well meet my friend Spyder, a little tortoiseshell fluff nubbin who lives in Silverlake.

glamour kills days four: bearly human

Depending on your definition, I may or may not be an actual human being... which makes this polyblend muscle tee terribly fitting. In the figurative sense. The way it physically fits isn't terrible at all, it's flattering and designed for desert heat and shows off my toned upper arms (holla new gym membership). But back to my main point: I'm only like 1% homosapien. I say this because all of my behaviors suggest that I am actually a sloth-bat-possum hybrid. Extremely lazy, live in a cave, play dead when intimidated. That kinda thing. So the graphic "bearly human" is suspiciously spot on.

Glamour Kills inspired me to channel my grunge goddess spirit animal (probably a bear) and pair this tee with faded denim and a plaid flannel. Like the good old days. And good new days to come. ^_^

glamour kills day three: flower metal

Floral prints and ripped-all-to-hell jeans are just the juxtaposish' I'm looking for. Today's outfit says "honor the abject with luxury." Huge holes at the knees of your secondhand acid bleached paint stained pants? Slip into a pair of heels. The raglan tee I'm sporting needs absolutely no sprucing -- it speaks for itself in the laidback language of softball practice. And reflective sunnies... to remind you of yourself while at eye level with me.

One word for Glamour Kills day three: SLAY. Trying to do exactly that with these hair flips and poses. You can't see all the movement that goes into photographing an outfit like this. But trust me. It's a death metal dance party.

wanna fanta #tbt

Everybody loves a label -- be it a designer logo or corporate graphic. Stylishly aligning yourself with the products you consume is self-expression. What I buy, what I enjoy, what I choose to taste and accessorize is who I am. Because my personality made that choice. Agency. Identity. Wanna Fanta.

no thanks

Stripes and fur have me looking like an extremely posh referee, which is exactly what I am, so I'm not actually saying anything new by making that comparison. I am a ref. A vigilante. A self-proclaimed authority with unproclaimed bias. I live to judge other people. Your outfit. Your moral framework. Your Facebook profile picture. Not good at anything but having an opinion and legitimizing it through physical enforcement. Might I have the most annoying personality 'in the books?' Indeed. But at least I look good.

neo matrix #tbt

In honor of Thursday and the amazing pun that is "FTBT," I'm doing a #throwback post to earlier this year! I never got the chance to show you this matrix inspired, leatherette goth look in my 80s Purple "neo" shades and Romwe suspender dress. Cyberpunk after all.

scuba x minty jungle

Every time my BFF Jessi and I are contemplating our outfits for an out of town gig or vacation themed event, we prioritize our likeness to our all-time favorite teen bully: Brianna Wallace. I've probably referenced her before in my Holiday in the Sun post, which was named after the movie she starred in (played by Megan Fox in her adolescence). We simply love outfits themed around that movie, which was actually a narrative infomercial for Atlantis resorts but marketed to Mary Kate and Ashley's youth audience as just another fun foray into the lives of America's white heroine sweethearts. There's an irresistible Weezer song playing in the intro. Here's why I love Mary Kate and Ashley: they were more or less sold into acting (not placing any blame here) and compromised the public experience of having their own unfiltered opinions, but as soon as becoming adults they rebelled against exactly that and became opinion leaders in fashion. They could have continued to exchange their identities for corporate campaigns with corporate scale paychecks. Instead, they welcomed adulthood and the process of having one's own opinions filtered not by a parent agent but by her personal, internal moral discretion.

Anyway, so this look is an enthusiastic wave (you know what I hate? when people say 'a nod to (x trend)' -- why are you nodding? It sounds so pretentious and wannabe dignified. I would never nod at something I like, I would enthusiastically wave. Unless you're talking about a 'wassup' nod. I would say sup to a trend I like, but it's waaaay more likely that I would wave and give them a Ja'mie hug and double cheek kiss) to water sports and the contemporary integration of neoprene and PVC in fashion.

Now may I direct your attention to the star of today's show. Everybody, meet Minty Jungle, Minty Jungle, meet everybody. This what Minty Jungle looks like:

Sequin All Seeing Eye Top ($40) | Jersey Mesh Bralette ($29) | Faux Leather Harness ($30) | Velvet Zip Up Crop Top ($24) | Cheetah Print Bomber Jacket ($50) | Supreme Bitch Swimsuit ($60)

I'm loving this angry sport girl aura for summer.

GILDED LEOPARD

Feeling a bit like a trophy in all these metallic duds: bronze shorts, shiny leopard bomber jacket, and a snapback adorned with an impressive amount of gold medallions and rhinestones. Oh yeah, and reflective sunglasses for that classic Zeva Midas touch. I'm very much inspired by all things opulent, juxtaposed with sporty or urban casual motifs. Baroque is still a popular aesthetic among streetwear enthusiasts, myself included. So choosing these literally metallic shorts from DailyLook to match the rest of my gilded wardrobe was obvious.
