PINKS AND PETALS

While I certainly don't cite the show as a source of inspiration, this outfit doesn't seem too far from what a Gossip Girl might wear in September. It has a scholarly vibe, one way or another, and maintains a hint of tasteful innocence with its pale pastels and girly textures. I added the detachable collar to the crop top for a fresh look that adds much needed flair to my chest. I'm an addict to accessories!

FEST ROCK

Imagine a music festival. Imagine swarms of guys and gals, moseying about the park. Imagine their outfits. I already know what you're thinking! Floral dress, white crochet vest, brown gladiator sandals. Last weekend at Pacific Festival in Orange County, I wanted to shy as far away from typical fest attire and roll with something, well, rock! Decided to go silver and black with some statement purple shades to pop among a sea of festive prints. I had the time of my life (despite my majorly ambitious choice to wear 5" wedges for upwards of 6 hours!) with the most spectacular girl on earth, JESSI JAE JOPLIN, rockin da funk out to our favorite artists- Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Toro Y Moi, Classixx, The Twelves, Cut Copy, and SNOOP DOGG! What an unforgettable experience. I'm officially addicted to festivals so get ready as me and Jessi take over the transcontinental scene!

SORRY, MOM

I named this look "Sorry, Mom!" because that's exactly what I'm gonna be saying as soon as I publish this post! Allow me to explain. This ensemble is my mom's worst nightmare. Ill-fitting t-shirt, "hideous" creepers, mismatched skirt, and straight hair. Not to mention the tacky jewelry cluttering my wrists and neck. My mom's idea of "the perfect look" is a pair of stacked heels worn with a tight LBD, fitted blazer, veiled hat, and Chanel pearl necklace. I can get behind that every once in a while, but I'd get bored looking so approachable and conservative all the time. What I like about this particular outfit (euphemism du jour for "Mother's Cardiac Arrest Trigger") is that it's youthful, careless, fashionably non-conventional, and rock chic. Throwin' up my devils fingers and saying "GET OVER IT, MOM!!!!!!"

KHAKI KEEN

This look is a departure from my grungy and gothic tendencies. I chose sophisticated staples from head to toe and wore it out for a night of window shopping and, funnily enough, food court fine dining. I guess I'd recommended wearing khaki pleats to an evening with "The Uppities". You know the type- perched on their high-horses and unable to recognize the greatness that is flannel tied around the waist and platform creepers. The kinda people you've been friends with since grade school that never quite hopped on the countercultural bandwagon. Deep down, I don't think you should pander to the tastes of any social circle, but if for once you're trying to dodge criticism, go for something simple, safe, and sophisticated.
