SKULL CREEPER

No matter how hot it gets in the summertime, I can't resist the classic appeal of a leather jacket paired with an industrial, studded garment like the skirt I'm wearing here. A friend handed it down to me a couple years ago and it's never let me down -- the silver buckles and A-line flare make for a statement silhouette with some signature Hot Topic edge. Of course I chose an even flashier piece to pair with it: this silver button-up gives the mall goth look a dose of glam. And the grungy knit beanie brings it all back down to earth!

The clear show-stopper in this outfit (and origin of the title) is THEM SHOES!!!!! What's that thing people say? Wa-wa-wee-wa? Definitely applies to these kickin' creepers with SKULL EMBELLISHED CROSS STRAPS. Argh. It's like the insatiable maximalist within me is on DMT right now, finally understanding its place in this divine world. So much going on and I have absolutely NO complaints: badass platform, metallic hardware, a peek of laces, and sideways zipper for maximum functionality. EUREKA. I have found it. Check out OASAP's insane shoe collection here for more gems.

DENIM ON ACID

Denim and I have a close relationship, kind of like a mom and her child. We’re really open with one another. Some people complain that I’m a bad parent to my fabric spawn; though I so evidently love and nurture him, I’m too forgiving of his reckless experimentation with drugs. I get it, I do, but what’s so wrong with me being a cool mom? Denim’s classmates are concerned that I’m not disciplining his copious use of hallucinogens. And I get that, too. Denim trips responsibly, but he exercises no self-control in how often he does. I mean, it goes without saying that he’s ALWAYS on acid. Just look at him. So wrought with indescribable hypersensory experiences that he’s speckled and pale. But I’m proud of him. Proud of his synesthesia, his unconventional, permafried appearance, his Saganesque tendencies. My kid’s a rebel.

After a recent trip to LA, I lost my favorite multi-strand gold necklace. Until I can replace it, I’m relying almost entirely on this detachable Chanel purse strap for some chic, touch-of-Midas glitz. It functions as a long, single strand necklace, or looped twice around the neck at a shorter length. As much as I love the way I wore it with this blouse, nothing compares to how great it looks as a choker. You may have also noticed that I sometimes whip it around my wide-brim Zara hat for a little gilded flair around the hair! Oops, really sorry about that one. As soon as you’re done gagging over the cheese oozing from the crevices of that rhyme, we can talk ways to reinvent your vintage belt collection.

PARTY TRASH

Safe to say I've found the ULTIMATE ironic t-shirt. Though I'm rockin' a text tee with "PINK GIRLS KNOW HOW TO PARTY" emblazoned across the chest, I'm definitely not a hard partier. Really. At every birthday bash, I'm the girl in the corner answering formspring questions on her iPhone while you're getting smashed on Mike's Hard Lemonade. No, I don't need a beer to coerce me into crawling on top of the furniture while dancing provocatively to Ace of Base. Yes, I am shameless enough to reclaim Britney Spears' "Slave 4 U" 2001 dance moves while sober. No, I'm sincerely not embarrassed.

Not sure what you guys wear to parties, but I think this outfit here is an ideal look for me. Normally I wear giant heels, but I recognize that creepers are more functional because 1) they're easier to dance in and 2) you probably won't trip over in them while drunk-stumbling to the toilet in the guest bathroom. I layered on the jewelry for that 'heavy metal' look... one part music genre, two parts literal interpretation of the junk hanging from my neck and fingers. Aaaand I threw a Chanel necklace into the mix as a big 'eff you' to Coco for trying to convince me that minimalism is cool. Yeah right!!!! *raises red cup and chugs*

Wish I had more to say, but I'm still reeling from an incredible weekend with Jessi and need some time to recoup my intellectual energy. Spend too many hours thinking in terms of "which hotel on the Las Vegas strip has the gimmickiest architecture for maximizing our Instagram experience?" and you'll forget how to craft a decent blog post! I've got an exciting giveaway to announce tomorrow, so stay tuned! Much love.

CRASH N BURN

Though we've already sold the lovely camo military jacket featured here, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce you all to an Etsy shop and blog my friends started! It's called "The Fabulous Stains" (yes, named after the 1981 punk film of a similar title) and it highlights nostalgia-oriented trends. Our clothes are either vintage, old-school, or just plain cute, from our closet to yours. Shop here y'all.

The outfit I'm wearing here isn't themed around any one trend - just a grungy, mall-gothy mash-up of camouflage, studs, and stockings. The top is from CRASH AND BURN apparel. Wish I had more good pictures of it. It's super loose and fits like a dress, but no worries - I was wearing shorts underneath.

WASTED

WAAAAAAAAAAsted shWAAAAAAAASted if this were early 2010, I'd have typed triangle and cross symbols up the wazoo. Anyway, I'm not really wasted, unless chugging 2 liters of wild cherry pepsi on a Monday morning counts as "hammered," "plastered," or in the words of Robert Lanham circa 2003, "shellacked." But I think if you were 'bout ready to mount your Harley Davidson and down a couple shots of Jack Daniels (what is it with badass things having badass first and last names?) you'd probably wear an outfit like this. I guess my theme is "teenage biker fixin' to kick butt and drink beer."

These are my new creeper-soled lace-up oxford boots. If you don't like them, just CLOSE out of this window right now. They are all I'm gonna care about this winter, so if you see me wearing them two or three or five or nine days in a row, don't say I didn't warn you! They're the perfect walking shoes and make every one of my otherwise 'mild' outfits look pretty darn rock n roll.
