SUNNY SIDE UP

I am feeling ~fried~ in the best way possible right now... I got my egg boobies crop top from Red Rock Fashion on and I am ready to brunch in beast mode. First time you've ever heard 'brunch' and 'beast mode' in the same sentence, huh? I try to keep things fresh here in my corner of the universe... fresh like Prince of Bel-Air, whom ultimately inspired this outfit. My cardigan features a spotted print reminiscent of zany 80s patterns. And while I'm not rocking any color-blocked neon or fluorescent stripes, I do have on my snapback and chains. Sunny side up game on point.

So these  i n s a n e  shredded shorts are from Mustard Cartel, an online vintage shop that sells on-trend apparel like a leather peplum blouse and transparent fringe kimono. And they have a pretty impressive denim shorts collection, so there's more studs and shreds where these came from!

HIBITCHSCUS

Yessss, I did just go there. Named this look Hibitchscus. Something I've always wanted to do -- curse on my own blog in a clever way and maybe almost get away with being stealthy about it but then point it out really obviously like right now. This look aggregates a whole bunch of staple concepts I've been repping hard the past couple seasons: metallic threads, chunky chains, an especially tactile snapback, and tropical print, which sort of monopolizes my present list of obsessions. No exaggeration either -- I own a shift dress made of the exact same black and pink Hibiscus fabric on my bomber jacket. I've seen it on a million different wholesale websites and it makes me wonder how this whole "fast fashion" shindig works. Does one textile manufacturer "invent" a print and re-sell it to a garment manufacturer who turns it into an awesome bomber jacket and re-sells it to a wholesale retailer who sells it to me? Is it really that easy? Seems so not glamorous. Doesn't anyone get to snort coke off a Japanese architecture coffee table book at a loft in Berlin at some point during this process? Sad.

Clearly I'm still riding out the .png decoration "wave". It's just that... photos without decals feel boring and naked. Uploading and editing them is too easy. Give me something to do! Make me turn a hibiscus cartoon into a transparent file I can drag and drop onto an oversize .jpeg of me doing a subtle duckface! Put me to work!!

I'm not sure where the 'tropical swag' look stands in the trend scheme this year. I went hard with Polynesian themes last September, the color turquoise, vacation motifs, and Hawaii. But that was before the look took off in department stores like Macy's and Forever 21. Has "Shaka" since been stripped of its unspoken novelty? Weirdly, I don't know and I don't care. This Hibiscus bomber looks tight as shit. And turquoise gives my hair an indigo sheen. So I'm gonna wear what I like regardless of its prevalence on mannequins in the junior's department at Nordstrom.

CEMENTED

Today I'm sporting a plaid flannel maxi skirt -- yes, one of the most genius UNIF garments to have ever been invented -- over my light-wash PacSun jeans because, obvious. Layering is what's up. Not because it's cold outside or anything. It's that wearing as many clothes as physically possible while still respecting sartorial social norms is a testament to how much you love getting dressed. Throwing on another layer is like... maximizing your apparel experience. More to touch, more to appreciate. Also helps that this little flannel number gives me a grunge vibe so aloof I gotta compensate for it with this weird thing called "effort." That's where the small details come in -- a tattoo choker I've worn more times than I can justify in the past couple months, and a layer of Lime Crime's "Glamour 101" opaque lipstick that I can justify wearing a million more times this dreary winter season. My pucker could use some punch.

Shout outs to DAILY LOOK for hooking me up with this cropped sweater! There are few things I like more in this world than boxy knits with cropped hems, and all of those things are illegal so I'll settle for this little beast instead. ;) I'll be rocking TONS of Daily Look this year so keep ya eyes peeled for more greatness. And sign up for an account at their site -- they'll email ya on the 'Daily' with clever collages for outfit inspiration, but not in a pesky-newsletter kinda way. PROMISE.

FLAME AND STUD

Some years ago, I knew a guy who took crazy photos and made t-shirts and hated everything (including me eventually) but was nonetheless quietly inspiring... I've always been tempted to hate him back but to this day feel reluctantly endeared to his poetic cynicism. Love, hate, same difference. The point is, he designed this t-shirt which my friend letter shredded and passed off to me. Its lasted me many a wild eve... which might be why it's now almost completely held together by safety pins. Sometimes life distresses your own clothes for you. I paired the huge tee with a tiny Meemee vest and cropped jacket from Wendybox. Throw some reflective lenses and flannel into the equation and you've got A Look. The "Flame and Stud."

Since this is my first of many posts featuring Daily Look, an innovative online retailer with whom I'll be regularly collaborating, I want to give them a special salute and officially welcome them into "my world." Or maybe I should be officially welcoming myself into THEIR world?? I'm down for that, too... heaven is living in a virtual loft somewhere between a series of trendy stock photos. Anyway, forget my non-sequitur retail fantasies for a minute and check out their inventory if you're in the shopping/browsing mood.

My flames cap is from Gypsy Warrior, another hot brand that's spoiled me with treasure... particularly of the faux fur and leopard print variety. Can't wait to show you what else is in store for the month! X

ROCK & ROLL FOREVER

Checkin' out my sick new duds, eh? Good news and bad news, my friend. These sick duds aren't actually mine. They're YOURS. As in, you can buy them right this second on the Fabulous Stains Etsy page! As badly as I'd like to keep these clothes for myself, I'm not that selfish... I always consider the wants and needs of our beloved community. Pay it forward. Kinda crazy how well everything matches, you know? Nothing does a studded vest justice quite like a rhinestone-encrusted-guitar-graphic tank top. And purple shorts to match! *Kisses fingers passionately in a 'voila' hand motion* Oh wait, that's a French thing, right? I meant to throw up my devil's fingers and headbang. Just remember, no moshing without me. If I find out y'all went to an AC/DC concert without inviting me first, I swear to GOD I will kick your butts to H - E- double hockey sticks and back!!!!

GRUNGE ON ACID

Worked my Glamour Kills Raglan tee into a 'beach grunge' look a couple weeks ago. The weather's warmed up - A LOT - so I can finally pretend that I live near an ocean and dress accordingly. "Do you wanna skate... or swim?" my outfit asks. "Neither," I reply, "I'd rather pull ten bags of highly-processed snacks covered in flamin hot cheeto powder out of my backpack and eat them while watching other people do those things." Being 18 is the worst because it makes you want to reclaim the glory of your teenage years by hanging out in skate parks and having water gun fights on suburban playgrounds. But maybe there's more novelty associated with doing those things as a 'legal adult.' Because it means you haven't lost your spark... and then maybe the rest of adulthood won't be so bad. Sorry, dressing up as a teenager living the Venice Beach American DREAM makes me think about the fact that I'm not a teen anymore ALL THE TIME. The internet is such a teen-centric place. Seeming younger than you really are is the new seeming older than you really are. No one wants to be sophisticated anymore. Me included!

My denim is on acid. Wash. HAHAH! GET IT!! I'm slapping my knee soooo hard right now. Native Heart knows what's up with their DIY studded denim pieces. They're practically art. Would NOT surprise me if someone had a pair of these framed in their living room. But it'd be kiiiind of a waste of a REALLY extremely perfect pair of shorts. Excited to pair them with my leopard print Hellbounds this Spring. Whew - the ideas are rollin' in! I don't think you guys are ready. ARE you ready? Please provide a detailed analysis of your readiness in the comment forum below.
