TRIPLE THREAT

I come from the fashion camp that believes there's no such thing as "too much" leather. A lot of people complain that if you go 'overboard' with one element in your outfit, the entire ensemble becomes gimmicky instead of chic. I agree that referencing only one motif without contrast, like wearing head-to-toe lime green or five polka dot accessories, is borderline costume. Not fashion. Certainly not casual (not that fashion needs to be casual every time anyway). But for whatever reason, leather has a charm that renders is exempt from this rule. You could wear a dozen leather accessories on top of a full leather get-up and still look rad. And maybe even casual. At any rate, I'm hoping this leather foursome isn't overkill.

This lovely lace-and-leather jacket entered my life a couple days after my birthday as a gift from my favorite person in the observable universe, Madeline. Besides working at 24HRS, the store that stocks this jacket (and two bomb-ass vests that I'll photograph and blog about within the next week), Madeline operates a fashion blog called Jean Greige, where she talks politics, feminism, philosophy, and lifestyle. In completely unpretentious vernacular and with RAD AS HELL pictures of her wearing crazy shoes and chunky jewelry to boot. I'm getting a huge kick out of how I sound like I'm introducing Madeline to you guys, when most of you probably already know who she is because she is literally my queen, and I've already dedicated a blog post to her about what a freakin' superhero she is. AEGEAN OMBRE

Paisley and ombre and snapbacks, oh my. I'm wearing one of my new favorite blouses from Bold Cupcake -- it's a sheer button-up decorated in a paisley fractal print and blue gradient. Really doesn't get better than a pattern so intricate it's mathematic. Special place in my heart for ombre, too. Reminds me of a perfect sunset. I paired the top with lavish chains, purple lipstick, and a pair of new but seemingly vintage denim shorts from Shop Gipsy Pixie. The look is lush and rustic simultaneously. About that sartorial paradox yo.

TIGER SWAG

I wouldn't have thought to pick out this tiger print sleeveless blouse from Bold Cupcake since I tend to avoid tribal graphic prints, but I'm SO glad they included it in my care package anyway! Turns out to be the perfect summer top for a girl who's primary goal is to make a fashion statement. Fuchsia and green tiger print does all the talking for me. It was too easy (suspiciously easy!) to create a killer party look with just a blouse and denim shorts. I turned a pair of white ropes that I *think* used to be purse straps into suspenders by clipping them to my belt loops. This is probably the craftiest thing I've done with 'spare parts' in recent weeks... besides this clever DIY rope trick my creative streak has been lacking. I tend to compensate for it with sparkly snapbacks. ;)

HEAVEN CAN WAIT

A friend of a friend once said "life's too short to wear boring clothes." Seems like an obvious sentiment, but I don't think most people take it seriously enough to wear something absolutely wild just because they can. But I think I made a pretty earnest effort myself. Mixed and matched all my red, blue, and yellow for a rather 'zany' mash-up of Mickey Mouse print, flames, rhinestones, and tie-dye realness. I've always said that I'd rather be hated than ignored, the subject of harsh criticism than of indifference, a figure of collected resentment than a nobody. A negative opinion is better than no opinion. As long as I'm noticed, I'm happy. And I *hope* there's no way this look will go unseen. ~Love it or hate it I'm flattered either way~

My fan-freakin-tastic t-shirt is from the lovelies at UNIF. One of my favorite last minute to pieces to throw on with a bandeau and denim shorts. Had a lot of fun doing something creative with it this time! MOD LILAC

When these Barta color-blocked platform sandals entered my life... it was like the world stopped. I know it's silly to invest so much emotion into a material possession, but some shoes make the attachment so totally worth it. These are obviously one of those pairs. Furnished from pastel shades of suede and adorned with a metallic platform border, these heels are the centerpiece of my look. The lilac strip in the heel was destined for a pairing with this crochet Chicwish dress. I styled my hair in a 60s bouffant style to afford the ensemble some mod sophistication. Can only pray that the likes of Brigitte Bardot would approve...

Been waiting for the right moment to wear this lilac minidress for over a year! I notice that I'm not much of a "dress" person -- I usually prefer to match separates since it's more creative than wearing one piece. But lately I've been collecting all kinds of dresses for spring and summer... bodycons, chiffon frocks, maxi length tank dresses for a minimalist theme. Saves me a lot of time I would have spent matching tops and bottoms. Better spent playing Temple Run 2, am I right? ;)

MOTO SHERBET

I found this leather jacket decorated in gorgeous pink and orange panels at Etro. It's one of my mom's favorite designers and I can see why... quality Italian textiles and vivid paisley prints. I paired the jacket with ivory leather skinnies from Daily Look and Ralph Lauren pumps to match. The look is modest and urban, but with the flirty spirit of Spring.

BLONDE BUNNY

Few things feel better on a hot day than a pastel color block. Here in Vegas we're already experiencing unfortunate 90 degree temperatures, so I'm almost completely dependent on soft pinks and baby blues to keep me cool. A pair of pink, blue, and mint sneakers from an adorable online shoe retailer called "Le Bunny Bleu" made for the perfect opportunity to debut my muted summer palette. Le Bunny Bleu calls their line of shoes 'romantic vintage', and once you peep the site you'll see why... their stock is simply CUTE. So I put together a Springy twee ensemble to do those baby hues some pastel justice.

My sister is not a fan of wayfarers but I kind of like that the Ray-Ban trend has already come and gone... now I feel like I can wear the classic frames without looking like a trend biter. Timeless accents make my life that much easier. Keeping up with accessory fads gets EXHAUSTING after a while! Guess if you're not constantly immersed in all the 'hot or not' fashion hullabaloo you can dedicate more time to simple things like sunglasses... meanwhile I'm completely invested in how to expand my snapback and sneaker wedge collection.
