Seems like every song about 'moving forward' will either tell you to bury your past or burn it. And while the idea of having a life so fast-paced and grandiose that milestone events can be completely eradicated from the recesses of one's mind makes my eyes twinkle, I can't say that I could ever commit myself to moving forward in the way that song lyrics obviously want me to. Maybe the reason is that I find tragedy everlastingly romantic. Why would I ever want to forget my past, especially if it was painful? It feels like experiences that impose the most vivid strains of suffering manifest themselves as creative fuel for the future. Nope, my past is sacred and mine for the keeping. ALL THAT SAID, the golden rule for overcoming emotional strife is becoming better than your problems. I'm first to acknowledge my obstacles and last to dwell on them. Find a solution and keep on going...
FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Hat- Vintage, Urban Jungle
Jean jacket- Levis
Plaid flannel- Abercrombie (can't wait to hear your sass on this one)
Shorts- Volcom, www.lulus.com
Doc Martens- Buffalo Exchange
Quick question for Doc Marten wearers- DO THEY EVER STOP FEELING SO PAINFUL?? These are my all-time most uncomfortable shoes. How can I minimize the discomfort?
Last but not least, for anyone out there brooding over your passe problems... I FEEL YA! This video is for the heartbroken 12-year-old in all of us.
YOU ARE CRAAAAAZY buying new Doc M's! i always buy 2nd hand ones and let the previous owner do all the suffering! Just stick with them, load up on plasters, once they are broken in they are the comfiest shoes in the world!
i'm a new follower, and can i say, i love your style. and i love the way you write at the beginning of your posts. so thoughtful, and meaningful. and i kind of love those old Hilary Duff days, so that video is perfect.
I really enjoy this outfit. I'm not sure how to minimize the discomfort on your Doc's because mine are super comfy! but i also have the 1460s. and i like abercrombie. they sometimes have really good pieces. i mean if you get something with out their name/logo plastered all over, you can really get good stuff there, i love their jeans. and the way you paired it with the denim is beautiful.
the reason your docs are so uncomfortable is probably becuz they are second hand. docs tend to conform to the shape of your foot so its best to get them new. i own two pairs of docs and wear them everyday (i think they call that addiction), besides the first couple of days they are the most comfortable shoes i own. hope that helps!
You just have to hang in there with the Docs and they'll come through. I had the hardest time finding my right size. The 9s were too big so I had to go with the 8. The first days my toes were killing but now they're okay. My toes still touch but they don't bother. They're actually very comfortable!
This is great, you look incredible & your hair looks so lush! Is that your natural colour & texture?
I know what you mean about Docs! They can be more uncomfortable than 5 inch platform heels! There're tips around the internet for breaking them in. Hitting them with a hammer to soften the leather, etc. I'd google it if I were you & see what you can find.
I had the 18 hole doc martins in the 90s and they lasted me 10 years. My mom ran over my foot while I was wearing the docs w her car and I didn't feel a thing. Last year I bought a pair of doc martins on ebay used! They r so comfortable! I wear them to go hiking. : )
i adore your blog! about the docmartens... mine were painful at first.. they were even a little bit too small for me.. but after a couple of days of wearing them the pain was reduced logarithmically. now they are my most comfortable shoes!! so just give them a few weeks and wear them whenever possible so that they can mold to your feet.
The only thing that is so yesterday is hilary duff. bahaha. I used to work at contempo casuals 7 years ago and we had a dvd we had to play and that was one of the videos on it.

ReplyDeleteInstead of "breaking them in" after 3,000 wearings, try getting insoles for your docs. More comfortable, better arch support, good for ya feet!
ReplyDeleteHaha I used to love that song! I also bought her album... #ouch
ReplyDeleteaaaaand you look fab as always :) You make me want to be stylish too! haha
na man, its better to buy new shoes as they will mold to your specific foot shape. Hate walking in other peoples shoes.
