CREME DE LA KHAKI

Take this outfit with a grain of salt - hand harvested, imported from France, and renowned for its artisinal crystal texture. The only thing this outfit needs is a fluffy lap dog, like a well-groomed pomeranian or poodle. I'm almost playing a character in these khaki skinnies and ivory pumps. A real housewife of somewhere. Arms folded because I'm closed off to the common ways of the world, standing next to an unnecessarily large plant in a lavish poolside garden. I need a drink. A flute of champagne. A bubbling beige accessory.

I'm going to name this side-parted persona of mine 'Tiffany Van Der Hooser."

PALAZZO

It feels good to own not one but two pairs of Palazzo pants, one black and pleated, the other red and transparent. I initially wanted to wear these guys with platform boots and a turban, but as soon as I recognized the irresistible matchability of this homemade bandeau top, burgundy floppy hat, and silk robe, the present outfit was decided, case closed, typed into a text file where I document all future ensembles in caps lock and control-s'd. For the record, keyboard shortcuts serve as fun verbs in casual conversation. Summertime is 50% about paying homage to our parents' hippie hayday with flower crowns and kimonos and 50% about looking like we're jetting off to a swanky Abu Dhabi resort in t minus 4 hours. Yacht wear with an eastern flair.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Floppy hat - Forever 21
Sunglasses - House of Harlow, Karmaloop
Silk robe - Secondhand
Bandeau top - Vintage scarf, vintage clip
Pants - SHEINSIDE
Sandals - O'Neill

What an incredibly practical pair of sandals those are... O'Neill sent them to me last summer along with a backpack and swimsuit, and it's crazy to think that it's taken me so long to officially introduce you to them! I've said before that as a general rule, flat sandals are a no-no for me because they can make an outfit look irredeemably conventional. But in the right context, gladiator sandals can actually lend an outfit the premise for an incredible theme! I think in this look, my outfit would be lost without them. I need something open toed, beachy, and Grecian to establish that I'm going for an exotic resort guise.

MARY JANES & ARGYLE

No matter how hard I try, I just can't get out of this preppy, twee schoolgirl phase. Trust me, I want to go back to my days of dripping in gold and silver crosses. I want to pull a veil over my eyes and brood quietly in the corner. I want to stomp all over your pure and happy souls in my platform clogs. But... I just... can't. I'm in a rut! A really wonderful little cutie-pie rut full of polka dots and petticoats and detachable collars and, in this case, argyle! I'll get back into the goth groove eventually, right now I'm kinda cruisin on these boarding school vibes in my khaki shorts and navy jumper.

Two new things I'm indescribably obsessed with: my sweater, my shoes. I'm always on the look out for good-quality jumpers to add to my knit collection, ESPECIALLY ones with built-in petal collars. Obviously. Thanks YES.I, for creating such gorgeous tops for every season. Really diggin' it!!!! As for the shoes... gotta stay calm. They're so adorable with their lil baby platform and Mary Jane strap! I'll take WAY more pictures of them later on. Somehow I'll incorporate my <3 precious new pumps <3 into every outfit ever on earth. Oh man, I can't wait to see how my entire sock collection looks tucked into 'em!!!! *shuts laptop and doesn't care about this blog post for the next 10 hours while I design outfits*

BEIGE AND BALLY

Deep down I feel like my sock-and-loafer combination is more appropriate for a Sunday brunch at a sidewalk cafe than for, well, really any occasion to debut a Bally bag. But as much as I'd like to wear fancy heels and purses all the time, sometimes a girl's gotta lounge. And quality lounging entails a ruffly pair of socks and fluffy loafers. I'm wearing ALL BEIGE because that's my personality right now. Beige. Kinda boring. Crusing through life, aloof. Indifferent to all things except my snooze button, with whom I've recently fallen madly in love with. And he likes me back, FYI. We're like, this close to becoming Facebook official.

Fluo pink lipstick makes literally any ensemble posh as eff. I hope a rich man with a yacht sees me in this outfit and offers me 5 million dollars. J FREAKIN K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GIRL POWER ALL THE WAY. I DON'T NEED NO MAN!!!!

FILLE DE LA MER

SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE, I warmed up to minimalism. No, I'll never wear a plain blouse with a pencil skirt and call that an outfit (because it my universe it isn't) but I'll definitely consider easing off the jewelry if my sweater or beret or leather clutch hold their own (which in my universe, they do.) So here's to another nautical look featuring the French national colors because I'm predictable and unhealthily obsessed with seafaring off the coast of France just because it seems like a stylish past time, really no other reason besides that one. What? At least I'm honest. Sailors have great jobs because they get to wear cute stripey clothes all day.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Beret - YES STYLE, www.yesstyle.com
Sweater - Secondhand, Avalon Exchange
Suspenders - American Apparel
Pants - H&M
Pumps - Vintage Salvatore Ferragamo
Leather clutch- KHEELS, www.kheels.com

I'm really happy this bag exists because it gives me an excuse to wear red and blue more often. And together. I don't own a single pair of red shoes besides a beat up pair of high-top Converse, so the clutch actually encouraged me to order a pair online for the sake of having something to compliment its color scheme. A blogger's gotta do what a blogger's gotta do. And if ya got a great bag and not many clothes and shoes to match it, ya buy more stuff. Kidding - consumerism sucks. Every time you buy something new, you should give something away. My mom taught me that. She's like a pathological hoarder except in reverse. Love ya, Mom!

QUI N'AIME PAS LA MER?

Who doesn't love the sea? I've been enamored by the scents and sounds of sea salts and sea shells since my infancy. You might not know this, but I was born right on Miami Beach! It's probably in my destiny to move back some day. One can only be without the ocean for so long. And on the topic of oceans- have you guys heard the album Cape Dory by Tennis? It's my second all-time favorite record, next to Room on Fire by The Strokes. The whole album is a documentation of the band's experience at sea, set to lo-fi melodies overflowing with nautical sincerity. I proudly admit to skipping around my room with "Seafarer" on blast while wearing this very maritime get-up! Red sky at night, sailor's delight.

Beret- Saks Fifth Avenue
Sunglasses- 80s Purple, www.80spurple.com
Cardigan- Gap
Bejeweled anchor dress- Victoria's Secret PINK
Thigh highs- Drugstore, DIY
Flats- Target

My title is (of course) in French, because the aesthetic I'm trying to convey is both Parisian and aquatic. Accents like my black ribbon and red frill assert that I'm young and romantic, while pieces like the beret and cardigan effervesce a 1950s beatnik charm. Altogether, the effect is French lolita looking for love at the naval base. Seafarer, you and I belong together!

Y▲CH† GIRL

My theme for yesterday's 'school' ensemble was 'yacht club chic'. After a euphoric week of cloudy skies and 75 degree breezes, the weather heated back up to an unpleasant 90 degree temperature. I tried to get back into the 'summer livin' mindset to make the heat more tolerable, but it was a bit difficult seeing that it's already October.

From the top:
Floppy hat- "August" for Nordstrom
Sunglasses- Thrift find at Savers
Polo- Ralph Lauren blue label
Cardigan- Ralph Lauren green label
Belt- Brighton
Shorts- Vigoss, bought them at Buffalo Exchange
Booties- Steve Madden

I even curled my hair into tight ringlets. I'M ALWAYS DTE (Down To Experiment).
