FILLE DE LA MER

SOMEHOW, SOMEWHERE, I warmed up to minimalism. No, I'll never wear a plain blouse with a pencil skirt and call that an outfit (because it my universe it isn't) but I'll definitely consider easing off the jewelry if my sweater or beret or leather clutch hold their own (which in my universe, they do.) So here's to another nautical look featuring the French national colors because I'm predictable and unhealthily obsessed with seafaring off the coast of France just because it seems like a stylish past time, really no other reason besides that one. What? At least I'm honest. Sailors have great jobs because they get to wear cute stripey clothes all day.

I'm really happy this bag exists because it gives me an excuse to wear red and blue more often. And together. I don't own a single pair of red shoes besides a beat up pair of high-top Converse, so the clutch actually encouraged me to order a pair online for the sake of having something to compliment its color scheme. A blogger's gotta do what a blogger's gotta do. And if ya got a great bag and not many clothes and shoes to match it, ya buy more stuff. Kidding - consumerism sucks. Every time you buy something new, you should give something away. My mom taught me that. She's like a pathological hoarder except in reverse. Love ya, Mom!

METALLIC FLAPPER

Most people who'd have worn this nearly-ankle-length metallic dress with sumptuous glam rock shoulder pads would've gone full force with the 1980s Madonna flair. But I chose to take 'material girl' to a new level and juxtapose the silvery threads with 1920s accents, like a headband, robe, and pair of old-timey kitten heeled pumps. Meet me at the nearest Speakeasy with your best pop records and I'll show you what it means to do the Charleston AND Moonwalk.

WI†CHY WOM▲N

The past three times I've gone out with my friends dressed like this, passersby have asked "so, are you guys in a play?" or "what's the occasion for your outfits?" Is it really so hard to believe that we just enjoy dressing non-conventionally? I'll never complain about the attention we receive because, ultimately, that's the purpose of fashion. To make a statement. I never reply with a sharp tongue, a simple "this is our normal style," and flash of my business card tends to suffice. I call this look "Mourning the Death of Mankind's Collective Dignity" (I shouldn't have to affirm that this is tongue in cheek). I don't feel confident unless I look like I'm attending a funeral.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM;
Hat- Random hat store
Necklaces- DIY, Adri Law, vintage
Shirt- Savers

Bag- Lanvin Paris

If ya can't tell, I'm REALLY bored with the whole Mulberry bag + high waisted khaki shorts + socks + clog wedges + blouse + polka dot blouse + floppy hat combination. Not that I don't appreciate how inherently stylish the outfit is, I'm just annoyed with seeing it 50 times a day on various fashion blogs. Anyone else think that most staple style bloggers are starting to look the same? It's pushing me further into this visceral desire to dress bizarrely.

NEW YORK ANNOUNCEMENT

Hey everyone! Some of you may have already heard that I'm heading to New York on Wednesday the 16th for an entire week in the big apple. The official BEBE ZEVA documentary, filmed and produced by lit, art, and performance icons Tao Lin and Megan Boyle, will be premiered at the Soho House in Manhattan on March 20th. The documentary and venue have been described as follows:

Legendary Children, an event series that highlights the work of emerging filmmakers, announces the premiere of the documentary Bebe Zeva at the Soho House on Sunday, March 20. The documentary, which revolves around the eponymous 17-year-old fashion blogger, marks the acclaimed novelist’s first foray into filmmaking with his wife Megan Boyle.

Working with a minimalist, low-budget aesthetic (Lin shot the film with his Macbook Pro) Bebe Zeva charts one night with the young blogger, as she talks with Lin and Boyle about her life while showing them around Las Vegas. The simple, utilitarian storytelling set against the absurd, over-the-top backdrop of Vegas calls to mind the similar tone of Lin’s books, such as Shoplifting From American Apparel and Richard Yates. Lin’s body of work (two novels, a novella, a short story collection and two books of poetry) have earned him a cult following and pegged him as one of the most influential young writers working today.Bebe Zeva provides an opportunity to see his literary aesthetic translated into the world of cinema.

Zeva is something of a fashion blogger prodigy–by age 17 she has already been featured in Seventeen and Teen Vogue and was recently a panelist at the WWD Magic trade show. Her online following–across Twitter, Tumblr, Formspring, and her personal blog “Fated to be Hated”–is enormous and enthusiastic.

If you're interested in viewing the documentary, pre-order it at http://mdmafilms.org!

NOW PRESENTING THE OUTFIT I WORE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FILM

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Scarf- Anthropologie
Velvet blazer- Ralph Lauren
Dress- American Apparel
Kitten pumps- Vintage Salvatore Ferragamo

Looking back on the outfit, I can't understand why I wasn't wearing a hat and thigh-highs. Brown floppy hat and navy tights would have worked perfectly. UGH. YA LIVE AND YA LEARN.

These are my shoes. They are filthy with whipped cream. Please refer to the documentary for more details.

Lastly, if you can provide any advice on what I should see, where I should dine, and how to get the best bargains when shopping, please feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email! I also need YOUR help on picking out the right outfits since this is my first foray into the city. I have no idea what to expect and am going to need a great deal of support from my readers! You're the entire reason that so many incredible things have been happening to me lately. The positivity and encouragement is what keeps me driven to pursue my goals. AND on that note- Happy Birthday to my baby blog, which officially turns 5 months old today. :)

H▲U†E WI†CH

I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago while Travis was in town. The occasion was nothing fancier than to simply see and be seen. We spent the day preparing crafts, eating fast food, and anticipating the evening. At nightfall, we stormed the Strip, equipped with a disposable camera and a thousand words ready to be depicted in film photos. Later, we met up with our friend Mark at Caesar's Palace, where we sat in a hotel room and listened to Taylor Swift.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Floral Scarf/shawl- Vintage
Floral drop-waist dress- 1990s Saks Fifth Avenue

Knee-highs- Drugstore

I was once racing around my room, desperately trying to invent an outfit that wouldn't result in prolonged insecurity throughout the day (as often happens when I foolishly choose to don denim jeans) when I was struck with a grand idea. When in doubt, dress goth. Perhaps it only applies to my personal fashion universe, as I frequently hear that 'gothic chic' is too morbid and solemn a style to sport on any occasion. But I'm vaguely certain that the best occasion to dress goth (at any extent) is when you're fresh out of ideas, need a standby, and overcome with the desire to turn heads while maintaining and elegantly witchy charm (no pun intended).

The bottom line is, I have a better grasp on the 'pagan vibe' than I do on most other contemporary trends. Maybe it has to do with my fascination with colonial America? And the fact that I lived in a 3-story Victorian house built in the 1800s for five years? In Massachusetts? I might also add that at one point I sat down and penned my own Magic Treehouse novel titled "Witches on the Weekend". It was about Jack and Annie venturing into Salem, Massachusetts where they witnessed a witch-hanging. 8 pages in I realized that my plot was just a tad too macabre for puerile audiences.

ANYWAY, here are a bunch of film pictures Travis and I shot of each other near the Venetian and Casino Royale.

****Disclaimer****
The cigarette is just a prop, yall. Neither of us are smokers.

That last picture is one of my favorite ever photographs of Travis. His eyes are half-closed as he nonchalantly strolls through the starry conservatory in the Wynn.

I had a lovely October night and am anticipating more winter wonders as the season wears on...
