When you hang out with me, you're also hanging out with my outfit. Bringing this up because the coat I posted about yesterday reminded me of an old friend (male, of course) who almost always felt uncomfortable being seen with me in my opulent faux furs, animal prints, and sequined hats. For obvious reasons; the fashionably unacquainted man assumes all lavishly dressed women are looking for the attention of 'potential buyers.' First of all, that is a myth, as most sex workers are undetectable and dress like anyone else. They don't have the privilege of looking too conspicuous. Second of all, insinuating that I look like a sex worker doesn't offend me or make me want to change my clothes. 'Sex worker' isn't, or at least shouldn't be, a pejorative. I know many very intimately, and the crazy thing is, so did my uncomfortable male friend. He simply didn't know because he didn't ask. So for future reference, I don't have time for the implicitly classist comments about my look, even if they are delivered in jest.

Unapologetically, this is me. Thriving in flashy metallics, plush whites, and Bruce Jenner's beautiful aviator aura.

modulart

I love faux fur too much. I depend on it to redeem any outfit I wear that isn't quite luxe enough... but today I'm sure my framed Chanel purse takes full responsibility for the job. It's limited edition, it's classically quilted, it's surrounded by a mother effing plexiglas frame, and even features a plaque to note what year and collection it came from like any fine piece of art. Tack this baby to a wall at the Louvre... but only after I've worn it several times and later decide that the novelty of it being a purse-on-canvas (the back of this bag is literally made of canvas) has gone the way of abstract expressionism and readymades.

HOLIER THAN THOU

Several months ago I went out shopping with my mom for some "retail therapy"... I was still dressing fresh breakup wounds and needed to distract myself with material goods for emotional refuge. Sometimes those false needs really come in handy. Lemme tell ya. I spied this waffle weave T by Alexander Wang top at Scoop NYC and fell in love instantaneously. Well, that's not entirely true. I had already seen the top a million times online because I'm an obnoxious Alexander Wang superfan. When it came before me on a hanger in the store... it was a seriously divine moment and I bought it without a moment's hesitation. I also snagged a leopard print porkpie hat and some J Brand zipper-embellished denim & leather jeans from Intermix. Fantastic little spree that I have yet to top.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Snapback - YES STYLE
"PARADISE" baseball jacket - ALOHA FROM DEER
Waffle weave tee - T by Alexander Wang (Scoop NYC)
Blouse around waist - Sugarlips
Chiffon pants - YES STYLE
"Popstar sneaker wedges" - G BY GUESS
Faux leather backpack - YESWALKER

Soooo, if you follow me on Twitter, you might already know that I'm a bit of an art snob. This varsity jacket by Aloha From Deer couldn't more perfectly fit into my personal brand. It's decorated in a freakin' Rococo angel mural for Pete's sake -- now that's that shit I DEFINITELY like. Also on my list of shit I definitely like: yet another pair of kicks to add to my growing collection. These are are a pair of G by Guess "Popstar" sneaker wedges. Diggin' the neutral beige... matches nearly everything, especially the nude tones in my Paradise jacket. I level up on that spiked sneaker game daily.

In line with my practical footwear is a practical new leather backpack from YesWalker. I used to wear the same Rebecca Minkoff messenger bag everyday for a year... then sometime in 2012 I switched over to a backpack, and I've been collecting them ever since! Tiny, clear, canvas, vinyl, I want them ALL. The latest is made of matte black pleather. Super stealth to match a strong monochrome look. It's probably the best backpack I've ever ordered online because it STILL hasn't shown any sign of wear and tear... and I'm pretty brutal with my backpacks. The real test is whether or not it will last a week in LA? I should travel soon... ;)
