mama tropic

Baby girl needs a vacation. It's already the end of August and I feel like I haven't done any REAL traveling in months... can't decide if it's the fault of my agoraphic tendencies or simply no opportunity. Either way, this tropical print two-piece from AX Paris puts me in the zone. You know what zone I'm talking about. Imagined pina coladas and a hammock. This outfit deserves a debut on an actual Polynesian island, not my local tiki bar.

houndstooth

I dressed up because this is a special occasion: my first blog post as a 21 year old. My birthday was on the 7th (holla at my Taurus sisters!!) and no I didn't celebrate by going to a surprise party at a privately booked club as I had always fantasized in my adolescence. I played a lot of Hearthstone, which is a major step up from last birthday's Temple Run 2. My mom also took me to lunch at the Wynn's society cafe and bought a collectible plexiglas framed Chanel purse - thrilling for me as an art enthusiast. But yeah, not much alcohol going on... although I did in indulge in one and a half glasses of Rosé (chased by a Rockstar energy drink) and later, a Smirnoff Ice screwdriver that I bought from 7-eleven. Am I glamorous yet? No? Is it because I'm too introverted or just not putting enough effort in? Allow these outfit photos to compensate, taken with a tripod in the safety of my own bedroom.

art grunge

Andy Warhol really sucks. He equipped the corporate world with a cultural middle ground that ought to remain neither practical nor rhetorical -- art. His departure from the conservative standards that ensure difference between advertisement and poetry unleashed a noisy, maximum opacity fog that occluded any cultural expectation of distinction. Just like people demand a separation between church and state because they do not want biased ideologies imposed on them, people ought to demand a separation between art and advertisement. The spiritual rites that religions represent do not deserve to be used for political gain. It is abusive and unsacred. Warhol nonetheless felt entitled to live without rules -- he was clever but immoral. And he knew this.

I'm wearing a pop art inspired top from Oasap because pop art is already a commodity.
I'm wearing denim because I'm on your side.
I'm wearing "boyfriend jeans" and a "masculine blazer" with heels and lipstick because I'm "not afraid to expand what it means to be a female."

I'm just like you -- different.

DRESSED IN LOVE

I've been waiting for the perfect summer day to debut this romantic chiffon frock from the boos at How Very Dare! Appropriately titled the "Hot & Steamy Big Boy Tunic," this piece features a sensual illustration juxtaposed between two strips of black and beige bar code. I'm crazy about the artistic vision that went into creating this garment -- besides the fact that the tunic is gorgeous, it's also incredibly clever. To compare the depth of intimacy and romance to the shallow veneer that is commercialism is brilliant and futuristic. I layered it with a BB Dakota poncho and my favorite wide-brim hat for a classically western feel.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Hat - Zara
Poncho - BB Dakota
"Hot & Steamy Big Boy Tunic" - HOW VERY DARE
"Lolla Sandal" - Pink & Pepper

I haven't paired socks with sandals in a while... the urge is coming back to haunt me. Can't help that these Pink & Pepper Lolla heels look twice as fun with socks or tights! It also saves me from having to invest in a pedicure. LIFE HACK 101.

RUBY FLIRT

Another day, another item from Heavenly Couture's $16 or less selection! I'm wearing a utility blouse tucked into a Motel Rocks circle skirt with Pink & Pepper peeptoe heels. The look is flirtatious, summery, and (my idea of) timeless. Besides the tribal-esque fabric on my shoes, I'm not repping many trends here. Mostly just falling back on classic staples like a floppy hat and red lipstick.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Floppy hat - Karmaloop
Necklace - Chanel
"Shaish Light Longsleeve Utility Blouse" - HEAVENLY COUTURE
Belt - Vintage
Skirt - Motel Rocks
Heels - Pink & Pepper

Today's lonesome necklace is a far cry from yesterday's jewelry overload. While I think this outfit translates well from day to night, the minimalist motifs make it a better fit for evening. As always, check out Pink & Pepper for more date-appropriate styles. ^-^

BOHO PROWESS

I've always felt like best outfit for a California road trip is a a baggy t-shirt or sweater, ripped jeans, boots, and turquoise jewelry. Maybe it has to do with that western rock and roll vibe. I like to feel in character while I'm on my way to a new place. Something about torn-up pants and a leather vest feels true to the vagabond spirit, especially while tearing up the highway en route through the mountains.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Head chain - Funny People Co.
Leopard sweater - Yes Style
"Romeo & Juliet Stitched Vest" - HEAVENLY COUTURE
Ripped jeans - Pac Sun
"Fab Boots" - PINK & PEPPER / Piperlime

About Heavenly Couture -- EVERYTHING IS $16 OR LESS. A million and one people have messaged me on Ask.fm asking for affordable online shopping options and Heavenly Couture is honestly as good as it gets. The fact that a leather vest in excellent condition and quality was priced so low is beyond me and I'm not questioning it. Just kind of quietly worshiping the lovely person that sent it to me.

My Fab boots, which are *literally fab*, are from Pink & Pepper... and I think it's pretty obvious! My Pink & Pepper shoes all have a signature flair. Like they're related. Heh. You can find this pair on DSWPiperlime, or Amazon!

WILD AND FREE

Sporting my trusty knit crop sweater from Daily Look this lazy Sunday... but hopefully not looking too lazy in it. I paired it with my new "rainbow unicorn" print leggings from RI.by.Carrie and an oversize plaid robe wrap-around (woo, that's a mouthful). The look is country -- I'm hoping my Pink & Pepper Funky booties add the finishing Western touch.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Hat + sunglasses - Vintage
Necklaces - Mad Lady, Vanessa Mooney, Juicy Couture
"Rainbow unicorn print leggings" - RI.by.Carrie
Plaid robe wrap-around - YES STYLE

By the way, if you're the leggings type, you might want to spy on some of RI.by.Carrie's other designs. They're about more than just pants... and in fact this rainbow unicorn print comes in dress and skirt form, too! Of course, super snug and form-fitting.

FUNK AND FLORA

When I think of Gypsy Junkies, I envision their annual booth at WWD MAGIC -- a bohemian alcove of fringe and fur, rich fuchsia and mustard hues, floor-length floral prints, and jeweled head chains. This structured blazer totally caught me by surprise in their collection! I didn't expect to find tailored outerwear among the free-flow maxi gowns and loose chiffon blouses. The "Zeppelin jacket" is the best darn thing to happen to my Spring wardrobe. I layered it over a one-piece from Lulu*s and added a zany multicolor beanie for a spontaneous look... would probably wear something similar to a festival if I had the energy or income to attend one! Hope you guys have some cool outfits planned for Coachella. I'll live vicariously through your Indio experience via Instagram, of course. ;)

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:
Beanie - 1717 Olive
V4 Sunglasses - Daisy Potion
"Zeppelin Blazer" - Gypsy Junkies
Onesie - Lulu*s
Fringe bag - Chicwish
"Funky Booties" - Pink & Pepper

Check out Gypsy Junkies' SS13 Lookbook for more inspiration of the free-spirited, festival variety!
