Another day, another delicious tropical gradient color combo. I remember when I found this Hibiscus print blazer at a Goodwill in North Hollywood. I was at the peak of my "polynesian fetishism" phase and could imagine a hundred million ways to wear this jacket, which I was especially committed to debuting at a club. Since "shaka" (recontextualized and whitewashed to suit my 2012 Hawaiian tourist fancy) is no longer a word in my vocabulary, the jacket is likewise no longer a symbol of my trendiness (or entitlement). In my mind it's returned to its culturally-neutral state of impartial structure... but surely ten seasons from now it will represent something totally different. For now, let's just innocently enjoy the aesthetic pleasure of turquoise, orange, and yellow.

STREETS ARE CALLING

Harem pants and a Hawaiian tee make for a pretty strong last minute look. Me and my sister shot these photos at a choice time of day in an accidentally not-so-choice part of town. In fact, the brick alley we unintentionally 'glamorized' in these pics was so riddled with trash and filth that my sister feared a "disaster tourism" theme would taint the entire photoshoot. Rest assured that no matter how many sick "but piles of discarded furniture and styrofoam are abstract installations" jokes I make, I recognize that poverty is real... and not a conflict to fetishize. To keep things positive, I'll direct your attention to mah beanie from The Streets Are Calling store and gradient shades from Foster Grant! No better distraction from the Real World than Retail right lol peace love fashion commerce xo!!!!

Oscar Wilde once said "life is too important to be taken seriously." It's my favorite quote of all time. Not only is it true, it's deliberately paradoxical; therefore furthering his point in having a laugh at 'the human condition', etc. Yesterday's outfit was a physical manifestation of said concept. I wasn't in the mood to be somber and serious- I wanted to make people happy by process of 'somewhat making a fool of myself'. Here I yam!
