DISCO SK8R

With silver sequined shorts that resemble the sparkle of an old school disco ball and a backwards studded snapback, no phrase could better describe this look than "DISCO SK8R". It's a look casual enough for the skate park and glam enough for the dance floor. The glittering fabric is in an eye-catcher all around... doesn't matter if you're doing an ollie or a hustle. As long as it's smooth, it's welcome. Sparkling hot pants might not be the most nonchalant of garments in my dresser, but they certainly rank as one of the most comfortable. And with iridescent sneakers, a boxy crop top, and trusted leather jacket, I'm about as ready to rock and roll as the skeleton throwing up devil's fingers on my tee.

If ya lookin' to revamp your wardrobe this season, I gotta recommend the three retailers I'm reppin' hard with this look: Yes Style, for their impressive studded cap selection at wholesale prices, Sheinside, for their trend-conscious garments and shoe selection, and Romwe, for their EVERYTHING, as expected.

BREAKIN' THE LAW

This might be one of my FAVORITE ever outfits. In fact, I tweeted about it in early October: "thinkin bout never publishing photos of my fave outfit so i can keep wearing it around different ppl without anyone accusin me of A Repeat". Well, I've finally gotten around to blogging about it so I SADLY can no longer wear it... unless you guys are understanding of how much I adore it and grant me permission to repeat the look, Wish Upon A Star sabotage style. You BETTER understand that Disney Channel Original Movie reference. Or else we have absolutely nothing in common.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Beret - YES STYLE
Sunglasses - 80s Purple
Jacket - Diesel
Beavis and Butthead tee - Secondhand
Plaid skirt - 9 CROW STREET
Skechers boots - Buffalo Exchange

So, reasons why I'm bleepin' obsessed with this look: beret and lace-up work boots combo. That is NOT normal for me, and in fact the marriage of such random items was an accident. Came together as I dragged the Skechers out of my closet and into my work space, where I had thoughtlessly dropped my little hat moments earlier. Shrugged my shoulders and accepted that fate clearly wanted this pairing to happen. UNIVERSE, YOU GOT IT RIGHT. Second reason: BEST GOSH DARN PLAID SKIRT I'VE EVER OWNED. And who do I thank? None other than 9 Crow Street for hookin' it up! Maybe you remember the collages I put together a couple months ago hilighting their online vintage selection. They've since added TONS of new secondhand stock, from tie-dye dungarees to studded biker jackets fastened from authentic leather at a discount price. CHECK IT OUT *HERE*. Third reason: Beavis and Butthead. Too obvious. This tee was a gift from one of my awesome friends, always lookin' out for 90s relics that I'll appreciate (and wear the hell out of to prove it). I hacked off the sleeves so I could wear it any season with a bandeau top underneath. My sister likewise marvels at its grungy greatness. Of course Beavis and Butthead are rockin' out with the words "BREAKIN THE LAW" emblazoned across the top and bottom... if ya too cool for school, drop out.

SUTURES

Ready to have your mind just like totally blown? Those leopard pants... aren't actually pants. They're the bottom half of a ruched-waist onesie I got from Natural Colour! I call it my 'catsuit' because it's kind of like an animal costume that accentuates my lesser-known feline tendencies. Examples: I pee in a litter box and lick my skin instead of taking actual showers. It's actually really cool and my family and friends are completely supportive. I take back everything I said about not being a cat person. I am a cat person. A literal cat person. A cat.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Beanie - 99 Cent Store
Mint and red ribbon top - YES STYLE
Leopard onesie/pants - NATURAL COLOUR
Red and gold booties - GUESS
Bag - Rebecca Minkoff

I guess I should have apologized earlier for making the potentially disturbing comparison between the lace-up ribbons on the back of my top and stitches on a wound. The actual sight of sutures in real life no joke knocks the breath out of me. I usually have to politely leave the room to relieve my temporary apnea. PHOBIAS, MAN. Shout outs to myself for undermining my own revulsion by naming a perfectly good outfit after something really SICK NASTY though. Peace.

FUCHSIA FLORA

This look is way fruitier and more floral than I can justify on a dark day in December... but maybe a dark day is the right day to wear a coral bomber jacket and rainbow pants. I'd like to believe that it distracts people from their seasonal depression for a solid five minutes. It's a much cooler excuse than "I'm still cycling through clothes I got in August and have no conception of fall/winter trends." Fortunately the gold spikes and elaborate gold platelet necklace are consistent with my opulent obsessions... gold frames, baroque prints, renaissance motifs. La good shit.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Spiked snapback - OASAP
Gold frames - Cobrashop
Platelet necklace - Oscar De La Renta
Coral bomber jacket - Clothingloves
White blouse - ROMWE
Floral pants - Vivilli
Boots - Deena & Ozzy

This look debuts two very sassy garments I ordered from two very sassy sites. The coral bomber jacket is a piece from Clothingloves, a traditional wholesale retailer that stocks nearly every alternative style popular in fashion right now. I'm talking about the 2012 classics: printed leggings, chiffon bomber jackets, floral jumpsuits, the whole nine yards. The floral pants are from Vivilli, a similar site that offers worldwide shipping! Check out their winter wear selection right here

BOUQUET BOMBER

Layering gold chains over a high-collar blouse and technicolor bomber jacket is nothing new, but my nylon sock cut-offs certainly are. Not everything I do can be explained... clearly. A random, leg-warmer-esque flash of red around the ankles is kinda (in the words of my best friend Jessi Jae Joplin) unorthodox in this context, but that's what I like most about the look. Novelty. And color. And floral print. And giant sunglasses. And the fact that I'm wearing another leatherette skirt twice in one week.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Sunnies - Cobrashop
"High Low Button Up Top" - BLAQUE MUSE
Bomber jacket - CHOIES
Leatherette skirt - ROMWE
Velvet heels - My Hot Shoes

So I'm kind of really annoyed with myself for not having introduced everybody to Choies earlier. Never have I seen more bomber jackets and leather paneled coats that I desperately want to buy in one place. It sincerely makes me short of breath so I feel compelled to warn you that if you browse the site for too long, it could (will) impose a health hazard and I don't want to be held responsible for the (inevitable) heart attack that could (will) ensue. I'M JUST A GIRL TRYING TO SHARE HER LOVE OF GIVENCHY-INSPIRED SILK JACKETS WITH THE WORLD. And purple faux fur coats like this one. And fluorescent flower print blazers like this one. And a puffy thing that will keep you warm in the winter. I'll for sure be back with more recommendations after a couple rounds with the inhaler.

DON'T TRY

...to make any sense out of this outfit. It's uptown and downtown and clementine-orange-slash-Swiffer-green. Actually, the blazer reminds me more of the loading cursor on Windows 7. Serene aquamarine green. Sadly the sunset toned leggings and macaroni yellow beanie are not so serene. And the very bougie quilted Marc Jacobs bag is a random addition that I can't justify. It matched one patch of my pants? It's a neutral color? The gold straps tied in well with my metallic chains? That's about the best I can do... I'm going back to sleep now.

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Beanie - Thrifted
Cat eyes - 80s Purple
Orange lipstick - "My Beautiful Rocket" by Lime Crime
Swiffer blazer - Yes Style
Autumnal blouse - O-MIGHTY
Sunset leggings - Romwe
Espadrille wedges - Senso / Solestruck
Bag - Marc Jacobs

Y'all definitely need to check out O-mighty's wardrobe game... it's better than any other online retailer's inventory because the alternative theme is consistent within every garment they stock. From blouses to circle skirts to overalls and vintage dresses, every single item is grunge perfection. *Bows down*

SUGARLIPS DAY 5: CHARCOOL

Closing off my SUGARLIPS collaboration week with a piece that I think is especially characteristic of the brand: a crisp, black and white button-up with signature triangle studs at the collar. My sister is as obsessed with the top as I am - she's a big fan of the 60s and all the artistic movements, films, and styles that came out of it. You could even say she's a 'modophile.' So, naturally, a loose blouse with a giant black block in the center tickled her minimalist fancy. I can definitely see her wearing an outfit like this one (even though she's not much of a hat person). Sometimes we rub off on each other!

FROM TOP TO BOTTOM:

Fuzzy beret - YES STYLE
Sunglasses - ROMWE
"Western Consultant Top" - SUGARLIPS
Charcoal shorts - c/o American Apparel
Loafers - Pink and Pepper

Thought I was done harping on about the glory that is Pink and Pepper's patent loafer collection, huh? So wrong you were! I've recently added two new pairs to my shoe caddy and they feel RIGHT AT HOME among the oxfords and flats and crochet booties. Loafers (especially the cutie pies with tassel details) are the unofficially official School Shoe. Wear them over and over again - it doesn't matter, they never lose their sharpness.

My shorts are from American Apparel (thanks, guys!!) and WAHOO do I love a new neutral staple! Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you feel about the desert being a hellish ball of heat and tumbleweed), the weather won't get painfully cold at least until January, so I've still got a solid amount of time to rock these sophisticated shorts before we enter Pants Only territory.

Last but not least, I want to thank Sugarlips a million and one times for arranging this incredible collaboration with me! Personalizing their awesome garments in a way that tested my creativity and inspired my readers (or so I hope!) was an indescribably rewarding experience. I extend my sincerest thanks to the team! You can DEFINITELY look forward to more Sugarlips coverage on FTBH.
